2 year anniversary-Superhero

“Sometimes real super-heros live in the hearts of small children fighting big battles”

Two years ago this month, our Baylor underwent a life changing spinal surgery in St. Louis to help combat his cerebral palsy.  Baylor’s spine was opened, bone cut and removed, then nerves were severed in order to help the tightness in his legs be less, in order for him to walk better. Baylor had to remain still for 3 days after surgery and then we began the painstaking physical therapy rehabilitation.  Baylor’s surgery was a huge success and if you saw him today you would be amazed at his progress and capabilities.  He is by far the bravest, strongest little boy I know and he never complains about having to work twice as hard as others just to do the basic things we all take for granted.

Baylor seems pretty typical to most, but what you don’t see is the hours he puts into therapies each week, the torturous night splints and knee immobilizer he has to wear to sleep each night, the endless stretching that must be done to keep his muscles loose, the leg casting and refitting of braces every few months, the putting on of his AFO’s each day that constantly cause blisters and bruising on his feet, the constant struggle of having to always be aware of his surroundings in order to prevent falls, and the fatigue that sometimes seems overwhelming. As a momma, it breaks my heart to have to watch him struggle and work so hard each day, but let me tell you…Baylor wouldn’t want you to feel sorry for him or pity him. Baylor would tell you that he is a fighter and he won’t give up.  Baylor would want you to know that his obstacles only make him stronger and one day God is going to use his testimony to change lives.

Baylor shouldn’t be doing as amazing as he is, but only by God’s grace and power is Baylor where he is today.  If you saw his MRI that was done at 18 months old and heard the doctors say how much brain damage there was…you’d never believe it was the same child walking, running and playing today. Baylor has changed our perspective and outlook on life.  He challenges us daily to be diligent and keep fighting instead of giving up or accepting defeat.

Baylor’s diagnosis has opened our eyes and hearts to a whole new world of families with disabilities.  It’s incredible how many families face daily challenges with their special needs’ children, but sometimes you never really know the heartache and pain that goes on because it’s not always visible or openly discussed.  My heart goes out to every incredible mama of these remarkable children…know I’m praying for you and never forget what a warrior you are. Not everyone sees the behind the scene struggles, but know you aren’t alone in this fight for our children.   On this anniversary of Baylor’s surgery, we are holding him extra tight and thanking God for his incredible life.  Baylor has changed us all for the better and we are so thankful we get to have a front row seat to his victory in life.

My bookends' bond

Having 4 children is not easy and a lot of the time my kiddos fight and argue...so much so that I have tend to want to pull my hair out!  However, the love between my two bookends, Aubrey and Landry, is without a doubt the strongest bond I've ever seen.  These two are absolutely adorable.

My precious Aubrey Lane is so in love with Landry that I have to sometimes fight her to get to hold him.  I've had to hold her back from going to get him at times when he makes the slightest whimper in his bed. She truly is like a second mama to him. Landry is so comfortable with her and at times she is the only one who can settle him down. It is just the most heartwarming thing ever.  I am so thankful for their bond, not to mention the extra set of hands she provides. I will say the downfall is when she is at school, Landry expects to be held all day and I get nothing done!!

This picture cracks me up...she is doing her homework with him and he is just chilling!

I find tons of selfies on my phone with these two!

She loves wearing him and he is absolutely content in her arms.

I tell everyone, if you have a surprise 4th baby, you need to make sure you have a 9 year old girl as well!  It's easy peasy when these two are together! I'm so thankful for their bond and I hope and pray that it only gets stronger throughout the years.

Watching these two together makes my mama heart melt!

Landry James---One month old

I never thought my first post back in almost a year would be about the new addition to our family!  If you had told me a year ago, we were gonna have another baby, I would have said you were crazy!!  But here we are and we have a newborn baby boy!

Our precious Landry James was born on June 7 at 5:25 AM weighing in at 7 pounds 7 ounces! I went further in pregnancy with him than with any of my others.  I had him at 37 weeks, 4 days which is a record for me! I was able to have a Vbac and it was a super easy recovery.  I'm so thankful there were no complications at birth and he was strong and healthy.  He had a head full of dark hair and looks nothing like our other children.  He's chunky and has the most beautiful olive skin...again nothing like my skinny, bald, pale other babies!

He is the most beautiful baby I've laid eyes on and we are all so smitten with him...especially Aubrey Lane.  She is obsessed with her brother and her love and attention has not waivered one bit even a month later.  I have to fight her to let me hold my son!  I will say, however, she is a natural and a lifesaver...I could not make it without her help.  She is amazing with Landry and never seems to get flustered or tired of caring for him.

The boys are very sweet with him, they just don't seem to want to hold or care for him 24/7 like their sister.  Baylor has had the hardest time adjusting and he still could really take or leave him.  HAHA!  Baylor has been the baby for the last 5 years and he is not used to having to share the spotlight.  Overall though I will say everyone has done great adjusting.  The kids just accept and love him as if he has been here forever.  I just can't wait to see all of their relationships grow and flourish.  I have no doubt Landry will fit right in with all his siblings.

Landry is a fantastic nurser and would nurse all day long if I would let him.  He is adjusting to day/night time and doing so much better with going longer stretches at night.  He just started going a 5 hour stretch at night and let me tell you, it is life changing for me!  He is pretty consistent with his nightly schedule of going to sleep around 9, waking around 1:00 and then again at 4 or 5. His grunting all night long is getting better and I can finally see the sleep deprivation easing up a little.  He hates having a dirty diaper, being wet and bath time.  He loves his elephant bouncy, his sister, his noonie...and of course eating.

We are so thankful for our little caboose and we are savoring every single sweet newborn moment...it is so fleeting and I want to cherish each minute with him.

Landry is the perfect addition to our family...he's the ending we didn't even know we needed.  Happy One Month Old sweet boy!
