Grandparents' Announcement

Before even becoming pregnant, Christian and I would always discuss how we wanted to share the news of a new baby with our parents. We tossed around many different fun ways of telling them and always hoped to have a huge, shock factor in our announcement. Christian especially wanted it to be a huge surprise to family, so whenever anyone asked when we planned on starting a family, he would usually tell them "Oh maybe 2 or 3 more years!" knowing good and well it wouldn't be that long! Well the moment we found out we were expecting...all those discussions and hours of planning flew right out the window. It was like we couldn't even think...we just wanted to immediately go tell everyone. Not necessarily in a crazy, unique way...we just couldn't wait to blurt it out. In fact that night we went to dinner to celebrate and this was our conversation at dinner.

Christian: I think we should wait to tell our family until you go to the doctor next week and make sure everything is okay.
Ashlee: I agree. Let's not tell anyone until next week.

No lie...this was our conversation on the way home from dinner...

Ashlee: Wanna go tell our parents right now?
Christian: Absolutely.

So we managed to come up with a story about needing to drop off a gift at my mom’s house and we actually packed the gift with 4 positive pregnancy test. So this is what happened when she opened the gift.

It was priceless! Later on Saturday, we were busting at the seams to tell Christian's parents. We just couldn't wait. We decided that since we had captured my parents on video that we wanted to capture his on camera. So we invited Mr. Steve and Mrs. Brenda over for a casual Saturday dinner. Before leaving for dinner, Christian acted as though he wanted his dad to help him figure out a particular setting on the camera, after playing around with the new setting for a moment, Christian said "Okay...let me test this out...Mom, Dad, Ashlee, stand together and let me get a picture." So we all lined up and Christian said "Everyone say... Ashlee's Pregnant!" Well at first both of them just said it casually...not really getting what Christian just said. Here is the picture of them both casually repeating what Christian just said. Then it dawns on Mrs. Brenda what he just said...although Mr. Steve doesn't quite get it yet... Now they both get it...
Let the waterworks begin!!!

Such a precious moment! No doubt both sets of grandparents were ecstatic and overjoyed at the news. This baby is so blessed to be born into a family with such a strong foundation on both sides of our family. God has truly blessed us.

A big thanks to our parents for guiding us, teaching us and leading the way...for making us who we are today...and for being the best example of how to be amazing parents! We love you guys!!

Shout it from the rooftops!

It's hard to keep a secret. Especially a good, juicy secret. Nothing stinks more than having wonderful news that you can't share with the world. Each moment of everyday is filled with thoughts of that one specific thing you cannot tell anyone. Sometimes the struggle becomes almost unbearable. At that point...all you wanna do is shout it from the rooftops!

Well...today I have been given a gift...a gift of freedom from my secret. I can share my good news with everyone I know and even those I don't know. Interested or not...I am gonna proclaim my news for all to hear.

Ready or not...here it comes...

Yes...it's true!! 4 different test confirm our wonderful news! We are going to welcome baby Moots into our family this October!

Believe it or not, I am already 8 weeks along. Here is our precious peanut at our first sonogram!! It is so surreal!!

So many more details and fun information to share...I'll be blogging like a madwoman!

However, before I sign off, I want to take a moment and give God all the glory, praise and honor for this miraculous gift. We are so thankful and excited for this new life and we can only bow our knees and give thanks to Him.

Children are a gift from the LORD;
they are a reward from Him.

Date Night

Last week Christian and I decided it was due time for a date night. I will be the first to admit that I tend to be a homebody. I would much prefer hanging out at the house with a good meal, a movie or tv show, and sweet Lex curled up next to us. However, because I am such a giving, self-sacrificing wife...I decided to allow Christian to take me out to dinner and a movie! I will even admit I was pretty excited about our evening out on the town.

We had a gift card to TJ Ribs so that was our restaurant of choice. Upon arrival to the restaurant, Christian and I noticed there was no one else their under age 70. Apparently eating at 5:00 is not for the young...perhaps young at heart. We had a wonderful dinner out...I had red beans and rice, although there was not much sausage and some of the rice was still hard. However, Christian gobbled up his soup, ribs and brisket...poor boy has not been fed too well at home lately. Our waiter was fantastic...seriously some of the best service we have had in a while. I didn't even argue with Christian about leaving too much in tip money cause he was so dang good. It also helped that he brought me hot dinner rolls. Bread is the only way to my heart.

I tried to talk Christian into going home and just renting a movie, but he stood firm in his stance that we must venture out into the real world. So we headed to the movies. Christian cannot go to the movies without tons of candy, so we made a quick stop for candy which he then proceeded to make me stuff in my purse. I know...I know...we are terrible people...sneaking candy into the movie theatre...please don't judge us.

We went to see Unknown with Liam Nelson. I had a big red flag waved my way when we entered the theatre and there was a young couple with a baby...probably 9 or 10 months old. I have nothing against kids going to see movies. But a baby...come on people...that poor baby doesn't want to be in the dark, with blaring noises and bright lights. So much to my despair...this baby cried and screamed and yelled the WHOLE way through the movie. Seriously...I couldn't hear the words on screen half the time. I must admit this really tested my nerves. I was just so frustrated that our whole movie was ruined.

As if things couldn't get any worse...the interstate was closed on the way home so we had to backtrack through Denham Springs just to get home which normally would be a 2 minute ride home became a 30 minute ride home.

Perhaps Christian would say I wasn't the most friendly conversationalist on the way home!

So I will continue to stand firm on my belief that date nights are much better spent in the comforts of your own home! I am calling our date night...a night to be forgotten!
